Message from the President

Welcome back from summer. While it's been pretty hot and humid the last few weeks, fall is fast approaching. We hope everyone has had a nice summer, enjoyed some cool vacations, and got recharged for what looks like an economy on the mend.

For those members that were able to join, the first in a year long series of ICF Global business development calls, The Power of Using Social Media to Market Your Coaching Practice, was extremely useful and timely on July 8, 2009. These calls are only open to ICF members, and this call was worth the membership! We will be announcing upcoming calls as we learn of them.

Please join us on September 16, 2009 for what will be a fascinating and engaging panel discussion - Coaching Through Fear hosted by Dr. Jeffrey Hull and Judith Fox, MS. We have experienced, in the past year what almost became a worldwide depression. We as coaches need to help our clients, and ourselves, face their fears, turning negative energy into positive. See below for the specifics and we hope you will join us.

The annual ICF conference in Orlando in December is open for early bird registration. Visit www.coachfederation.org. As a member of the ICF Global Finance Committee, I pushed for reducing the cost this year. In addition, airfares to Orlando are very low so if you have always wanted to attend the Global ICF Conference, this is the time to do it.

ICF-NYC Monthly Meeting
Wednesday, September 16, 2009; 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Topic: Coaching Through Fear: An Interactive Panel Discussion

Presenter: Dr. Jeffrey Hull and Judith Fox

In this difficult economic time, coaches need to be effective at helping their clients face off with fear - transforming it from foe to friend. Using their own case studies and revealing specific techniques and practices for raising "fear awareness" while avoiding key missteps, Dr. Jeffrey Hull and Judith Fox, will discuss the range of approaches that coaches may utilize when supporting clients through fear.

In this interactive and experiential presentation, these two experienced counselors who work at the intersection of psychotherapy and life coaching will share with you:
  • The nature of fear and how it shows up in coaching engagements
  • How to recognize fear in a client and how to help them move through it
  • How to dive below the surface symptoms and raise the client's "fear awareness"
  • How to coach clients through fear using exercises that bring into play body, mind, and heart
  • The five key myths that surround fear and how to de-bunk them
Jeffrey Hull, Ph.D. is a writer, psychotherapist, life and executive coach whose work ranges from single individuals in private practice to major engagements with Fortune 500 corporations. Dr. Hull currently maintains a Jungian-oriented counseling practice in New York City. His new book, Shift! Let Go of Fear and Get Your Life in Gear will be published by Globe Pequot Books in December 2009.
