Association for Psychological Type Monthly Event
Wednesday, October 3, 2007; 5:30pm - 8:30pm

Topic: Managing the Clash of Generations At Work - Boomers, Gen X'ers and Y'ers: Is there an MBTI Overlay?

Presenters: Melissa Bilboul, Terri Dittmann, Lora Pawlowski, Kathryn R. Wankel

Moderator: Shoya Zichy

"So I told my boss, 'If you're looking for loyalty, get a dog.'" There's a new problem in the workplace, and it has nothing to do with downsizing, change, foreign competition, cubicle envy, or greed. Instead, it's the problem of distinct generations crossing paths and sometimes colliding. So how can you manage this motley group with their conflicting work ethics, dissimilar values, and idiosyncratic styles? How can you coach them to stop snarling at each other and work together? Although Gen-Yers comprise only about 10% of today's workforce, their importance will increase dramatically due to the retirement of the boomers. Managers must connect with Gen Y and respond to the challenges of their mindset.

Furthermore, as with cultures, different generations have their own norms and values drawn from their particular life experiences. So while MBTI distributions remain constant, there is an intriguing overlay as to how certain type preference combinations are expressed as a generation's "culture." Come and find out the results of this unique new research.
