ICF-NYC Monthly Meeting
Wednesday, October 17, 2007; 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Topic: Self Mastery, Meditation and Coaching: A New Frontier

Harvard Law, Columbia Business School, Insead and McKinsey & Co. do it - why don't coaches? Meditation is a way to build critical emotional awareness, reduce reactivity and gather wisdom outside the traditional. Using role plays of difficult conversations, dialogues and interactive sessions, coaches will access places beyond reason and emotion where some of their true wisdom and best skills reside.

Mark Thornton is the former Chief Operating Officer for JPMorgan Bank in London. Described as "Deepak Chopra meets the Sopranos," he has dedicated his life to creating the world's first management consultancy that does one thing - teach leaders and teams Corporate Meditation to be practiced in real world, high pressure business situations. He is on the teaching faculty for the Harvard Negotiation Insight Initiative and teaches meditation to domestic and international organizations, such as New York Times, United Nations, IBM, and Martha Stewart Omnimedia. He is also a best selling published author of Meditation in a New York Minute. Find out more at www.markthornton.us

ICF-Rockland/Westchester Monthly Event
Tuesday, October 23, 2007; 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Topic: The Science and Heart of Coaching: How new research in neuroscience affirms and informs the practice of coaching

Speaker: Paula Borsody, MA, ACC

There has been a recent explosion in scientific literature regarding neuroscience and personal change. Research in neuroscience shows that personal habits of thinking, perception, and behavior are firmly encoded in our neurobiology and can be extremely resistant to change. And, this same research shows that what we do as masterful coaches can actually create chemical and physical changes in the brain that support habit change and personal evolution: new ways of thinking, feeling, perceiving and behaving. Neuroscience is proving that coaching can be powerfully effective in supporting positive changes in human consciousness.

Paula Borsody, MA, ACC, was involved in the field of special education for over 35 years as speech therapist, teacher, and as consultant to teachers and to parents of children with hearing impairments and other special learning needs. She has been a personal coach and workshop facilitator for the last five years. She is a steering committee member of the ICF- Westchester-Rockland Chapter.
