Message from the Vice President
As signs of summer finally arrive and we all start anticipating our outdoor adventures, I want to remind you of the exciting events we have coming up in the next few months. So grab your calendars and save a couple of days to enhance your coaching skills, learn all about social media, and mingle with some of the best coaches and businesspeople in the world.
At this month's meeting, ICF-NYC Founder Ira Dressner is going to share his inside look at Core Competencies and the ICF Accreditation Process. Ira is currently on the National ICF Board of Directors, as well as a Certified Assessor for Credentialing. How lucky are we that he is a member of our chapter?
At our Members' Meeting on June 17, 2009 Donna Sweidan, aka "The Linked In Specialist," will be telling us How to Use the Internet to Increase Your Coaching Presence and Your Business. If you're like me, you're probably on Linked In but don't have a clue what to do with it. And if you're not on Linked In, Donna is going to tell you why you should be and how to optimize the opportunity. And in a classic case of "We Heard You" and as a follow-up to Donna, on July 11 (yep, that's a Saturday but we're only going to take four hours of your summer weekend) Scott Holt and Janice Wright will be conducting Everything You Always Wanted To Know About the Web But Didn't Have Anybody To Ask. Blogs, Twitter, website design, article marketing, SEO and keywords, and social media are just a sample of the topics that will be covered. I personally can't wait.
At our meeting on July 15 we get to re-welcome long-time friend Tracy Stevens who wowed us with her presentation at an ICF-NYC meeting a few years back. We ambushed Tracy at the ICF International Conference in Montreal and she agreed to present What Does Masterful Coaching Look Like? - Advanced Coaching Skills. After Tracy shows us all how to be masterful, we will take a much needed break in August. Then it's back to work in September.
And keep your eye on National ICF because they are keeping their eyes on us. Following the fantastic article (PDF) in the April issue of Coaching World (page 14) , more articles about ICF-NYC are supposed to appear in the May and June issues. We will also be letting you know about the dynamic teleconferences being sponsored by ICF National. David Rock and Howard Behar (the Starbucks guy) were the last two speakers.
Looking forward to seeing you at the meetings. If you still need a little convincing, check out what they said about our last meeting.
Call to Action
In keeping with our goal to reach out to the local community (we have previously worked with organizations such as, Career Gear, HACE, Women for Hire, and Baruch College, to name a few), ICF-NYC is calling on YOU to assist us in our efforts to bring coaching to as many people as possible. Join our Community Outreach Committee and help us contact local libraries, police stations, hospitals, fire departments, local unions, unemployment offices, and anywhere that people gather to meet a common need. These are the people who could most use coaching at this time, and we'd like to offer them the experience of one-on-one coaching, group coaching, and workshops. And we would also welcome the names of your favorite community contacts or worthy organizations. Those interested should contact Director of Community Outreach Ilise Ratner at iratner@ratnerandassociates.com.
Renewal Reminder
Now is the time to renew your membership with ICF National (or become a new member) so that you can reap the benefits of a full year of membership – discounts to local and global events, teleclasses with world-famous leaders, special buying prices from affiliated partners, the latest information and assistance on accreditation and credentialing, find-a-coach referral services, and of course being a part of a fast-growing dynamic local and global family. Just remember to designate New York City as the Chapter of your choice. You can renew, or become a new member.
