Message from the Executive Vice President

Last month we kicked off international coach week by volunteering to facilitate a series of coaching workshops for Career Gear, a non-profit organization for men that provides appropriate business attire for job seekers. They also provide services and resources that help their clients in retaining employment and advancing in the workplace. Services include: 1) provision of interview clothing; 2) job retention and advancement skills; and 3) linkages to other resources and community based agencies.

My workshop was up first and presented four easy to understand communication styles. Through role-playing, the men were able to not only learn how to use their individual styles of communication but also how to flex them to emulate the style of someone interviewing them for a job.

I was thrilled to see the men so eager to participate and quickly grasp the process. They learned both how to hear someone else's style of communication and to speak so that they could be fully heard by others. The feedback at the end was great and they all felt this tool, along with the handouts, was something they could use right away. And I left with a strong conviction of how powerful and rewarding it is to be a coach.

To volunteer your coaching services or to conduct a workshop, contact laurie lawson at laurie@eljnyc.com.

And if you missed all the excitement in February, don't worry. We have plenty left for March! At our next meeting Michael Charest is coming all the way from Kansas to tell us how to make $250,000 a year coaching. And on March 14, Master Certified Coach Madeleine Homan, author, speaker, and cofounder of the Blanchard® Coaching Services, will be conducting a special workshop entitled Congratulations on Becoming a Coach - Now What? Coach Development: Direction At Last! And if you can't make either of those, ICF is offering a Webcall featuring David Rock. Read on for the details on all these events.
