Message from the President

Happy 2010! Doesn't it seem like just yesterday that we were all worried about Y2K? And now here we are ending the first decade of the new millennium. Take a few minutes to congratulate yourselves on surviving a turbulent and trying ten years, and then let's enjoy the present and look to the future together. I am so honored to be doing this with such a dedicated Board and a dynamic ICF chapter. Wherever we went at the 2009 ICF Global Conference, ICF-NYC was being touted as a shining example of how to run a successful chapter. We have won awards for Community Outreach and Finding Our Voice, |

established liaisons with organizations and companies that can benefit from coaching, reached out locally, nationally and internationally to other ICF chapters that needed assistance, expanded our public relations efforts in the community, and increased our membership. No wonder they were talking about our chapter! And we plan to keep the momentum going in 2010. We devoted 2008 to learning how to grow our businesses successfully, and in 2009 we had the core competencies of coaching as our theme. This year we are going to take what we learned and enhance our coaching skills and business practices with fundamental expertise, as well as on-the-edge, out-of-the-box concepts and practices. And we plan to have lots of fun while we're learning and growing. But none of this can happen without you. The needs and aspirations of ICF-NYC members are the driving force of our success so let us know what you're thinking. 2010 is going to be bright and challenging. Make sure you're a part of it! |

2009 ICF Global Conference
Global ICF's 14th Annual Conference took place in Orlando, Florida, December 2-5, 2009. As always the most valuable benefit from the conference was getting together with coaches from all over the world and feeling the unity that stretches around the globe. Some of the comments from attendees include:
"NYC was a star of ICF Global. People talked about our success the entire time we were there!" - Bernie Siegel
"For me there were many great take-aways from the conference. Peter Block, who delivered the first keynote, seemed to set the tone and brought home that within all of us, in every situation, and in every conversation we experience, there is a gift. His statement "What's the gift that you are that you still hold in exile?" still has my head spinning. Several of the workshop presenters referred back to his keynote. I heard we can always find the gift even in those not-so-pleasant situations. By doing this, it makes them not only tolerable but also unexpected possibilities to turn the situation and experience into something totally different. This is something I plan on using immediately." – Bonnie Gurwicz
"As a first-timer, I enjoyed the conference very much. I was especially inspired by being in a room and meeting some of the other 1,000 coach attendees from around the world. I was also energized by William Arruda's Personal Branding session. William is the facilitator of the ICF-Global Brand Task Force. Should anyone be interested in details on his session, please ask me." - Ilise Ratner
"This year's ICF conference's theme was Inspiring Individuals, Building Communities and Impacting the World. For me, the opening ceremonies with Peter Block as the speaker were the highlight of the conference because it is truly about inspiring, building and impacting when coaches from the four corners of the globe come together to share one common goal: inspiring people, building relationships and impacting the world one person at a time." - Terry Yoffe
Doug Silsbee's Evoking Resilience in Leaders Through Presence-Based Coaching was packed full of empowering techniques to help us remain mindfully present throughout each coaching session. Strategic Storytelling and Story Selling Skills for Coaches was another session I found extremely valuable. Doug Stevenson offered concrete steps to craft the art of storytelling and spice up our presentations. With practical tips and lively examples, we learned how to combine acting techniques with a compelling story to spice up our public speaking and create memorable presentations.
"There were quite a few 'aha' moments helping to make this a wonderful conference experience for me. The opportunity to spend unstructured time with some of the NYC chapter's board and membership was an added bonus! I can't wait until next year's conference and I hope to see many of you there!" – Deborah Avery
"We missed a great opportunity this year – getting to meet with all the other ICF-NYC people who were at the conference. Next year we are going to have a designated meeting space where we can all get together at some point. So dust off your ten-gallon hat, and we'll see you all in Texas at the 2010 ICF Conference!" – Laurie Lawson
