Message from the President

Remember when you were becoming a coach? The experience was overwhelming with new concepts, coaching tools and skills, epiphanies and self-awareness surprises, and the camaraderie of other coaches-to-be going through the same thing. I recall thinking "Wow, I can't wait to share all this with other people!" Recently I sat in on an introductory module with my coaching alma mater and it was such fun to watch potential coaches "get it." Their enthusiasm and excitement were contagious.

What I realized was that I am very grateful for ICF-NYC. This organization is a fantastic opportunity to continue the solidarity with a very special group of people—coaches. It is a way to meet others who have shared a unique process that widens their horizons and those of their clients, to keep up with the latest trends in the field of coaching, and to just network and have fun with like-minded folks. Coaching is a noble profession and a continuing self-growth experience. ICF-NYC allows you to refresh and renew the original motivation that brought you to coaching. Now is the time to renew your membership or to become a member so that we can spend 2010 together in a shared environment of inspiration and growth.

We can start this month. There is a special workshop being offered by Dr. Jeffrey Hull on April 17th. And just in time for Stress Awareness Month, former Board member and newly-published author Zohar Adner will be our speaker for the April 21st meeting. See the details below. Then check out our new monthly article where we feature an ICF coach—In The Spotlight. ICF members interested in being featured should contact Director of Communications Deborah Avery at Deborah@NYExecutiveCoaching.com.

Saturday, 4/17/10, 12:30pm - 5:30pm

Topic: Coaching Clients (and You!) Through Fear: De-Bunking the Myths, Getting Results

Presenter: Jeffrey W. Hull, Ph.D. (Back by popular demand!)

An Advanced Interactive Workshop
What remains one of the crucial stumbling blocks to a successful coaching engagement? You guessed it: Transforming a client's DREAD of change...into delight in the process! Today's successful life coaches need to be especially effective at supporting their clients—and themselves—in facing down fear, getting UN-STUCK...and into action.

Using real-life case studies and research from his new book, Dr Jeffrey Hull is offering an in-depth, experiential workshop with specific techniques and practices for raising your, and your clients, "fear awareness." His unique, time-tested "Life-Shifting" ™ method will demonstrate:

  • The nature of fear and how it shows up in coaching engagements
  • How to recognize fear in a client and how to help them move through it
  • How to dive below the surface symptoms and raise the client's (and your own!) "fear awareness"
  • How to coach clients through fear using exercises that bring into play body, mind, and heart
  • The five key myths that surround fear and how to de-bunk them
Whether you are new to life coaching, or a seasoned professional, this workshop will give you an opportunity to learn at least five specific practices that you can use to detect and move through fear in your own life, as well as how to apply the exercises with clients.

Jeffrey Hull, Ph.D. is a writer, psychotherapist, life and executive coach whose work ranges from single individuals in private practice to major engagements with Fortune 500 corporations, such as ATT and MasterCard International. Dr. Hull has been featured in the New York Times, Investor's Business Daily, and appeared on Good Morning America. His new book, Shift! Let Go of Fear and Get Your Life in Gear will be released in April from Globe Pequot Press and will be available at this workshop. Get your signed copy!

Website | Blog | Relocation Success Formula
I am a Culture Transition Specialist. I work with clients who will be relocating domestically, or overseas, to prepare for the emotional hardships of a move—specifically the social, personal, and professional challenges that arise. I also work with clients who have already relocated, and find themselves in the throes of loneliness and isolation to help them create their ideal life. I work with "expats" (people moving overseas for a job), "relocating professionals" (people moving domestically for work), and "trailing spouses" (the spouses who follow, and typically must give up their job to do so). I also work with companies to sort out cultural clashes on the job—such as between manager and subordinate, or cross-cultural teams.

You can learn more about my business at www.culturetransition.com. I have also recently founded The Expat Coach Association (www.theexpatcoachassociation.com) to help the Expat Coach community, and also created an Expat Coach Directory, www.theexpatcoachdirectory.com.

If you'd like to be included in our new feature "In the Spotlight" please send a brief description of your coaching specialty, contact information and a photograph of yourself to the Director of Communications, Deborah Avery, at Deborah@NYExecutiveCoaching.com.
