2006 Coaching Symposium & Getaway Recap
- by Laurie Lawson, ICF-NYC Communication Director
Monsoon rains could not dampen the spirits of the ICF-NYC Coaching Symposium held at beautiful Club Getaway this weekend. A consortium of coaches joined Baby Boomers for two days of fun, relaxation, and life coaching. The interest in coaching was
phenomenal! Our coaches were kept busy with over 20 mini-coaching sessions; our workshops were well attended by both coaches and interested Club Getaway participants; and good will was promoted throughout the club. Special kudos to ICF-NYC President, Marianna Lead, who had the original concept and worked diligently to execute the Symposium, and who, with no advance notice, provided a fantastic Leadership Workshop when the scheduled speaker was waylaid in Chicago due to the thunderstorms. Now that's multi-tasking!
Our goals were
- To bring life coaches of all backgrounds together
- to make as many people as possible aware of the coaching profession
- To provide experiential awareness through mini-coaching sessions
- To educate coaches through workshops by some of the leading life coaches and entrepreneurs today
- To promote the ICF-NYC Chapter; and
- To have a little time to play and unwind.
We succeeded on all levels. We've already had several inquiries about where next year's symposium will be held. That's a great sign! And as a bonus, attending coaches came away with a common bond and a reinforced goal to make coaching available to as many people as possible. Here's what some of the participants had to say about the ICF-NYC Coaching Symposium:
"I had a great experience with the ICF coaches that I met at Club Getaway as well as the guests that I had the opportunity to coach."
- DY
"Thank you Marianna for our Chapter's introduction into Club-Get-Away... This weekend was about combining learning with fun and the amazing energy which was created. Let's do this again!!!"
- CB
"Club Getaway was a great experience for me. I felt so proud being a part of the ICF-NYC Chapter. I not only had an opportunity to do some free mini-coaching but I got some great tips at the seminars we hosted."
- BSG
"We all had a fabulous time and truly spread the word about coaching to the baby boomers. If we could do this "one group at a time" you can imagine the legacy we will leave in another year about coaching and how it can change a person's life and the way they choose to live their lives."

A Message from Marianna Lead, ICF-NYC President
The ICF-NYC Coaching Symposium was successful beyond our wildest expectations, and every leader realizes that success is never a solitary achievement. So this is a perfect time to thank Laurie Lawson, ICF-NYC Director of Communications, who assisted me in putting this all together, and other Board Members Phyllis Rosen, Director of Credentialing; Terry Yoffe, Secretary; Bonnie Gurwicz, Treasurer; and President-Elect Claudia Bayr for making this first-time-ever event a proud part of ICF-NYC Chapter history. With these dedicated Board Members by my side, anything is possible!
